She gave up her career to raise us.
My mother had a career. She gave it up to raise three children.
Being needed was the shape of her days, and not only when we were small. Through school, through university, after we had moved out and had homes of our own. She still rings in the morning to check we are alright. She has never once stopped thinking about us, even when we are nowhere near her.
Then we left.
One by one we moved out and the house got quiet. She would never say she found that hard. She is not the type. But she did. The thing that had organised her days was suddenly somewhere else, on the end of a phone.
Nobody really talks about that part. You do not notice it either, when you are the one doing the leaving.
Then the grandchildren came.
I have just had children of my own.
Watching my mother with them has been one of the great surprises of my life. She is down on the floor. She is carrying them. She is doing the reading and the bath and the walk to the park, exactly the way she did for me.
Something came back. You can see it. She has found her place again, and she is enjoying it more than any of us expected, herself included.
So that is what Vyttl is for.
Not to make her younger. Not to make her different.
Somewhere along the way I read that from around your forties your body’s own creatine stores start to fall. That is what got me interested in the first place. It is not a fault and it is not a problem to be fixed. It happens quietly to everybody. But almost nothing on the shelf had been made with a woman her age anywhere in mind. Everything was for men in gyms or women in their twenties.
So I made this.
A few minutes that belong to her.
One sachet, cold water, first thing. Before the day starts and before anybody needs anything.
It is a small thing and it was never meant to be a big one. A couple of minutes in the morning that are hers, at the start of a chapter she is clearly enjoying.
